| Client / Project Brief | Pask Winery, Hawke’s Bay |
| Response to Brief | With the building already consented and significant in scale, our design response focused on creating intimacy, atmosphere and immersion. A European inspired palette of dark timber, brass, cognac leather, stone and layered lighting evokes Pask’s winemaking heritage. A concealed door behind the tasting counter leads to the private tasting room and cellar, adding theatre, exclusivity and discovery. Rustic timber behind the tasting area nods to also owned, Jackson Estate, while booths beside the winery contrast hospitality with wine production. From the central bar to dramatic wallpapered bathrooms and recycled Belgian tile outdoor tables, every detail creates a memorable wine led journey. |
| Detailing & Materiality | Detailing and materiality were central to creating a layered, immersive experience that balanced old and new, vintage character and refined hospitality. Dark timber, brass, cognac leather, stone, wine red tones and parquet flooring evoke Pask’s winemaking heritage, while huge brass entry doors create a strong sense of arrival. Custom designed lighting defines the different experiences within the open-plan building. Recycled timber behind the tasting area adds history and texture, and the porcelain bar counter pulls the palette together. Unexpected touches, from the secret door to the private cellar, Art Nouveau inspired wall murals and bold wallpapered bathrooms, create discovery and delight |
| Innovation & Creativity | Creativity was driven by the opportunity to turn a large, open-plan winery into a sequence of immersive and unexpected moments. We introduced design interventions that move the venue beyond a standard events fit out: large Murano brass panelling, recycled timbers concealing a secret door, and a wine cellar designed to feel like a discovered stone cave. Bespoke lighting, designed by us, choreographs the mood of each zone. Art Nouveau-inspired murals bring romance and narrative, while vintage Belgian tiles were reimagined as custom outdoor tables. Vintage-inspired finds were layered throughout, allowing old and new elements to work together in a memorable, highly considered experience. |
